How to Serve


The Canton Fire Department maintains a staff one full time Chief, four part time firefighters, thirty-five volunteer firefighters, and ten reserve members. Normal business hours are Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm The Department is also fully staffed from Friday 6:00 pm through Sunday 6:00 pm during First Monday weekends. Emergency response is twenty-four hours a day.

Applications for new members are accepted at any time and are reviewed by the membership at the regularly scheduled meetings. Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Canton Fire Station located at 1390 S. Highway 19 in Canton.

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have, at a minimum, a Class B, Non-CDL Texas Driver's License.
  • Must live within the Fire District boundaries of the Canton Volunteer Fire Department.
  • Must successfully complete a Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Background Check.

Duties:
  • Complete a six month probation period during which the following shifts must be worked with a senior firefighter:
    - Three twelve hour shifts.
    - One twenty-four hour shift.
  • Attend regular training meetings.
  • Respond to all emergencies when notified.
